Cataloochee Auto Tour - Wildlife Watching: In 2001, elk were released in Cataloochee Valley of North Carolina as part of an experimental program to reintroduce elk to the park. ...Most of the elk are located in the Cataloochee area in the southeastern section of the Great Smoky National Park.
